Our Story

Based at Rakiura Stewart Island, Whiria te ao (“to weave the worlds”) is a Māori engagement consultancy company that provides tailor-made packages such as te reo Māori programmes, Te Tiriti o Waitangi workshops, cultural awareness and competency training and policy writing to individuals and groups, in an accessible, flexible, vibrant, and exciting way.

Whiria provides culturally responsive solutions for individuals, groups, and organisations in their pursuit of cultural awareness and competency. Our vision as servants of Te Ao Māori is to weave both cultures Māori and non-Māori for a better future, we are enriched daily and believe sharing this nourishment will navigate GLOBAL WELLNESS through a Māori lens. Whiria te ao’s core business aides in the vital retention and maintenance of Te reo Māori me ōna tikanga through a number of on-line and face to face packages for those in their pursuit of mātauranga Māori. We tribute our growth, and development to the Māori world and together with additional threads to be woven into the whāriki (mat) Pā Tours Rakiura will mount Whiria te ao into an evolving universe as a general empire for generations to come as amplified in our Ngāi Tahu whakataukī.
